Before I had a horse of my own, I would often volunteer at rescues and visit farms just to spend time being with the horses.
Before I consciously knew about the power of being one with the herd, I was guided by my spirit to take refuge within their embrace.
Once I began my journey into learning about the healing ability of the horse I understood why I was drawn to spending hours just sitting in the fields being with the horses.
There is something magical and grounding about being in the midst of a herd of horses. Their energy as one is intoxicating and healing for the soul. The insights and messages I have received in this space of being are ones that have propelled me to places I could only dream.
The herd is not only healing for us as people but is the greatest healer and medicine for horses as well. I have witnessed their healing power on my horse Indra as he has needed the embrace of his own kind to heal his own soul from the long journey he has recently taken to join me in BC.
He has traveled far to be with me and for that I am grateful, however I know that I am not able to provide him with what he needs to be whole even though I try my best to. I have come to witness how powerful it is for horses to be one with the herd in a space where they can truly be who it is they are. In a space in which they are one with the elements, nature, instinct and the medicine of being a part of a herd.
In life we are bombarded with barriers, boundaries and limits to our beings and our souls. We forget what it is to touch and to be one with our natural instinctual self and the world around us. Being around these magnificent beings in this setting has reaffirmed for me how important it is to align and live in a space that supports and resonates with our natural selves. It has affirmed to me what I have always intuitively known in my heart; that being in the space of a herd of horses(or other animal species) is quite possibly the most powerful medicine that exists. It is in this space that we are able to access a greater consciousness, wisdom and perspective that can free our hearts and our minds from the limits imposed upon us in our society. It is in this space where I feel the most connected to who it is I really am, and able to connect to my purpose here on earth. It is in this space where I have witnessed the wounds of the spirit, heart, body and mind of not only humans but horses being healed in a way that goes beyond anything else I have ever experienced. It is here where I am reminded of where home is, where I can begin to find a place in which I belong, and where I am shown the way back to my truth as a soul.
Beautifully written, Hillary! What a lovely read.
